Return of the Kings / Re: Chapter One

Sai knew what awaited him at Rahal's hands would be far from pleasant. The Red Prince's reputation was a cruel one, so he knew there would be pain in his future. Luckily, he didn't have to worry about being murdered or maimed, yet all else was fair game. It was odd, to be here in the harem he once called home. It almost seemed like a lifetime ago, when he'd lived within Sanguinaria's walls. So nostalgic. It hadn't been all bad, if he really thought about it. Hard at times, yes but not unjust. It was so surreal, walking down familiar hallways with a green eyed viper at his side, one who once so long ago had tried to get rid of him.
He'd been fifteen then, when Rahal attempted to strangle him. He'd come in the middle of the night where he slept with the other servants, straddling him as he wrapped his hands around Sai's throat. Rahal had been older, stronger, so Sai could do nothing to fight back, his heels digging into the cot he slept in as he tried to throw him off. He'd clawed at Rahal's wrists, staring up at those emerald eyes glinting coldly as his vision went black around the edges. That was the very last thing Sai saw. The next thing he knew he was cold. He didn't know where he was, but that he was outside and it was raining buckets. His throat ached, it hurt to breathe. The rain soaked the sheet he was wrapped in, leaving him feeling weak. It was cold, damp with heavy rain and the air thick with fog. He shivered, wondering if this was where he was going to die.
He thought he'd been hearing things when he heard a car slow down, the engine idling as a door opened. Black boots appeared all of a sudden in his line of vision and the wet sheet was drawn back from his face. The first impression Sai had of his unexpected savior was the blue of his eyes. Such a deep wonderful color, like the ocean on a sunny day. How he loved those eyes. Would he ever see them again?
"Do what you will. You always have."

Rhys watched the pair leave in silent amusement. While he pretended not to be aware of his Prince's activities, there was nothing within the walls of his harem that he didn't know. That had been an oversight on his part in the past, and had led to Michael being allowed to escape. He would not allow such behavior to occur a second time. He allowed Rahal to play his games, particularly when they worked out in his favor. Discretion in all things was key here. Rahal was allowed to have his fun. . . so long as he played by the rules. When Maddox appeared at the side doors Sai and Rahal had exited, Rhys got to his feet. This was nearly at an end. Finally.
"Now, I believe this concludes our business, yes? Maddox, if you would be so kind as to show our guests to the door." Dismissing them, Rhys moved over to the couch where Michael lay immobile and picked him up, holding him in his arms as Michael's head leaned back against his shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of him."
"Wait! Where are you taking him?!" Lien demanded. "You took Sai, so why do you need to have Michael too? That wasn't part of the deal."
"Wasn't it? You asked me for help, I'm giving it. You want your precious king to get better, he stays with me until I say otherwise. Or, you can return to Firesse and watch him die. Your choice. Well? I'll take your silence as compliance. I'll be in touch, Prince Lien."
And just like that, Rhys walked away, taking the most important part of Firesse with him.
"What have we done?"
